ART IN THE PROCESS
SAVANNAH COLLEGE OF ART AND DESIGN M.A. CANDIDACY REVIEW PROJECT
I created a coffee table book comparing my process as a graphic designer to the process of film photography. This book is a testimony to how paralyzing the idea of perfection can be on a creative. This film is not perfect. In fact most of it is underexposed or overexposed or simply ruined. This book is a love letter to process. Showing the beauty of creating rather than the creation itself.
-
I took and developed all the film in this book. I enlarged a few in the dark room, while the rest were printed at Bay Camera, located in Savannah Georgia.
-
These paintings represent the freedom of creating like a child. The freedom to create something bad. These elements highlight the value of focusing on the process of creating rather than the end product.
-
Representing a crucial part of my process as a designer. Handwriting my stream of conscious and unfiltered thoughts.
-
The handwriting in my notebook were scanned and uploading to illustrator. Sometimes my notebook spiral or my fingers got in the way. This could be seen as a mistake, or simply apart of the process to creating the type-I saw an opportunity for art and design elements.

WALK THROUGH MY PROCESS
I was able to learn the basics of film photography at Savannah College of Art and Design. The class taught us how to use a film camera, develop film, and create prints in the dark room. Film photography gave me a strong appreciation for the process of photography. This idea of process allowed me to reflect on my graphic design career thus far. I realized how much I value the process of designing. Ones process is safe, ones process isn’t perfect, and I soon realized my design process can be apart of my designs. I realized my process can be used as design elements, and it’s something I have implicated in many projects, including this one.
